Scale is a bad word!

I did something I never do yesterday I weighed myself and yes I know I said I NEVER do this but I was feeling really good about myself and felt I had been working so hard that I could use some more good news. Imagine my surprise when the numbers came up and it was not good news - I gained 4 lbs! Needless to say I have been in a funk ever since I saw those numbers on the scale. How can this be? What has changed? Those are really great questions and when I spoke with my trainer (thank god she puts up with me) she said I need to think about what could have been different in the last few weeks than others and what I might need to change to get back on track. So not only do I have to start the BODYPUMP class tomorrow (still nervous about it) I now have to work on losing the 4 lbs I regained plus the 2 lbs that I am on goal for each week - I just need to refocus and not let this get me down - face the truth and reset goals and go for it! My son always tells me I am the strongest person he knows - I guess I better prove it!

Have any of you ever experienced this and what did you do?

Is it possible those four pounds are muscle gain? I can gain weight if I am working out and fit into smaller clothes.

Keep up the good work. Your son is a smart man.

I agree that some or all of your weight may be muscle gain. It could also partly be your body holding on to weight, because losing weight in a straight line week after week is not something you can count on, even if you are doing everything right.

I gained 2 pounds this week too - I know what caused it (bad eating habits) and getting on the scale and seeing the gain made me realize that I have to stay accountable for what I do with my eating and exercise.

Thanks for blogging. You are an inspiration.

This happened to me when I really started kicking up my workout! The key to solving this problem is water! I know you hear this all the time, but that is because it is true. Go to Starbucks... get a super trendy water bottle that everyone will love and be jealous of, and just NEVER put it down! It will solve this weird weight gain while working out business I promise!
