I don't think moderate exercise is a myth; I've been hearing extremely overweight people have to exercise "an hour a day" to see a difference.
Rubbish! I go to the gym 6 days a week but my workout is 40 minutes 5x a week and 1 hour 1x a week. According to that logic, I shouldn't have lost 24lbs in 2 months...but I did.
You're doing AWESOME.
I don't think moderate exercise is a myth. Heck, something is better than nothing, especially if health (vs. only weight) is the goal. The article also didn't say whether the participants incorporated strength training or just stuck with the treadmill. I've lost 41 pounds so far, and I jog about 30-40 minutes 5x /week, with at least 2 days/week of upper-body strength training. Sure, I'm still categorized as obese, but I feel better than I have in a long time.
Regarding the "set point" theory...I'm afraid to know what mine would be, because I don't ever recall my body spontaneously losing weight to go back to a particular "set point."
I do agree, though, that once you start with good habit changes (exercise, way of eating), you need to stick with them to maintain.
