Different but good and please show some respect!

Last night I joined the Zumba class they offer in the pool at the gym and let me just say it is a lot harder than the regular one. The instructor was really nice I explained about my ankle and she said we can modify the moves so don't worry (as long as you are moving that is the most important part). We started off slow and then worked our way up through the moves (a lot of them are just like the ones in the regular class). The instructor was a little distracted and I could not figure out why but I finally did.......while we were doing the class she keep moving us from one side of the wall to the next (turn left turn right etc) and I noticed everyone staring at us. Well I have come to just not worry about anyone else and just enjoy what I am doing and know that I am doing what I need to do to achieve my goals. Well I think she did not like them pointing and laughing at us so she turned everyone to the wall so that we could not see them. Now I understand when you are watching someone taking a class that you are curious but don't be rude! We are all working on the same goals and respect is what is needed. I was fine but one of the ladies in the group got out because she got embarrassed. My hope is she will come back and not let these people run her off. I get embarrassed really easily but when I want something I go for it 100% and try and not let my fears get in the way and not let others interfere on what I am trying to do. Please show some respect (parents stop your children from pointing and laughing and just because you think someone cannot hear you they can your comments can hurt!).

In all I really enjoyed it I am a little sore today but really feel good and I plan on going again soon. Tonight I am off as well as Friday but on Saturday and Sunday I plan to attack my routines and get back on the wagon 100%!

Here here...just a little respect...I so agree with you about the statements about showing a bit of respect. I too have gotten over it and realize that I am doing something for ME and if I didn't go to the gym and/or pool, I will not be doing myself any good. I know that people likely laugh at me when I do zumba or step or swim in the pool, but I still go...I need to....and others just need to get a life sometimes and worry about themselves....sorry I had to join in with my little rant here.

I am so glad you went to the zumba class in water. It seems like it would be fun. I am really enjoying zumba onland these days as I am finally getting the steps!

Good job on the workout!

Unbelievable! What the heck is wrong with some people?? Good for you for sticking out your class, despite the presence of insensitive jerks.

I pray those fools did not cause that lady to lose her confidence! There was a time it very well would have done that to me! I've never understood why the pool and aerobics rooms have so many windows!!

I'm SO impressed with the way you are pushing through and continuing to move even with your sore ankle!

That really sucks that people would act that way - at a gym, no less, where everyone is there for personal improvement!

I am so impressed with the amount of exercise you do. Hopefully I can find that dedication soon. Martine

Wow - how rude!

But I am so glad you liked the class - that sounds like a lot of fun!

This is exactly why I was so scared of going to the gym! The best way to deal with that type of people would be to show them that you will do it and will get fit whether they stare or not!

Sounds like an interesting workout though!

Keep up the good work!!!
and about the lil rant...keep up the awesome job your doing and if people are talking about you, remeber your two steps ahead of them....AND your booty looks good! hehe! That'll show them!

Hey Mara,
I think the facility management should be contacted. The pool is required to have a lifeguard on duty and it should be their responsibility to tell anyone to leave if they harass others, which pointing and laughing is.
I swim at a pool where there are several aqua exercise classes with lots of large swimmers and haven't seen anyone openly make fun of anyone. (Staring, yes, but that's all) So it's not inevitable. Though I admit I shopped around to find that pool.
Glad you enjoyed the class-
